There are some big changes happening in my life right now, and those changes are creating some big changes for A Kintsugi Life as well.
First, let me assure you that A Kintsugi Life is not going away! It’s just going to look and operate a bit differently going forward from what you are used to in the past.
What’s changing for me? I have made the decision to return to full-time employment. The pandemic and many of the resulting shifts it has brought about have made relying on self-employment much more challenging. I started my new job at the beginning of this week. This means that I am going to have considerably less time to devote to this business going forward.
At the same time, I’m getting ready to put my house on the market with the intention of downsizing into a significantly smaller home, which means I’ll also have much less space for working and storing supplies and inventory.
When I put those two things together, it’s clear that I need to do things a little differently to reduce both the time and the space I’m currently spending on A Kintsugi Life.
What does that mean exactly?
First, I’m cutting back on the categories and styles of things I make. Rings, tie tacks, tie clips, cuff links, tumbled stones, and two styles of bookmarks have already been discounted for a while and are being eliminated from my offerings. Bracelets and earrings are now also discounted and phased out, but I do have supplies to make a few more of those before I’m done.
Other styles will be added to the clearance list as I use up supplies for them (that are no longer available due to suppliers going out of business), but those aren’t happening immediately. For now, I’m hoping to create a bit more space prior to my move by clearing out the categories already mentioned.
Second, I’m eliminating my custom repair services for customer’s stones (at least for the time being). I don’t want to risk losing someone else’s beloved stones during the move process. Whether I return to offering that again later will depend on how all of these transitions go for me and whether I think I have enough of time and space to make that service viable.
Third, this Friday will be the last week for Friday Candles. The huge change in my schedule means that this is just not feasible to continue going forward. I’m sorry about that! Many thanks to all of you who have participated.
Lastly, watch for some big changes to the website. To save time, I’m in the process of migrating my inventory back to Etsy and will be running my storefront from there instead of hosting it here on the website. You’ll still be able to easily get to the shop from here, but you will lose any bookmarks (or pins) you may have saved to specific products. This is an unfortunately but necessary change because it will eliminate all the time I’m currently spending trying to keep the two synced up.
I hope to finish that changeover this weekend, so if there are any pieces you want to grab from the website before then, please do it right away! The “My Account” feature will also be going away as part of this move of the storefront, so if there’s any information about previous orders you want to save, please do that immediately as well.
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience these changes bring your way, and I hope the large number of discounted items will help make the changes a little bit easier to tolerate.
In the meantime, please be patient with me as I work through these big changes in my own life and figure out how to design new rhythms and ways of doing things to meet these new limitations.
I’m grateful to you all for all of your support in the past, and I hope you’ll stick around through these changes. If you have any questions about how these changes will affect you, please don’t hesitate to contact me to ask!
